Static & Retail Security Guarding Level 4
This course equips learners with essential knowledge, skills, and abilities to function effectively as security officers under supervision. Participants will gain hands-on experience in performing security duties and responding to various security situations, particularly in static sites and the retail sector.
Course Certification:
Upon successful completion, participants will receive three certifications:
- Security Institute of Ireland Certificate in Static Security
- Security Institute of Ireland Certificate in Retail Security
Entry Requirements:
Applicants are expected to have:
- A Level 3 qualification or the Junior Certificate on the National Framework of Qualifications.
- Alternatively, relevant life and work experience may be considered.
- Open to all adult learners, with no formal educational qualifications required.
PSA Requirements:
The Private Security Authority (PSA) requires the following for course enrollment:
- Proficiency in English (both written and spoken).
- Proof of address (e.g., utility bill).
Note: Non-native English speakers will be assessed on their language proficiency before course commencement.
Self-Directed Learning:
The course requires 100 hours of study, including:
- 30 hours of classroom instruction
- 70 hours of self-directed study
This independent study is essential for successful course completion.
Course Duration:
The course spans a total of 100 hours, divided as follows:
- 70 hours of self-directed study
- 30 hours of classroom learning, conducted over four full days
Full commitment to both classroom attendance and independent study is necessary.
Assessment Overview:
The assessment comprises:
- A one-hour written examination with 50 multiple-choice questions
- Practical demonstrations of three core security skills
Support and Resources:
Learners will receive:
- A comprehensive 390-page manual with detailed information
- Access to the Security Institute’s library for further research
- Sample guidelines and practice sessions for both the written exam and skill demonstrations.
- A study guide for preparation.
Additional Support:
- Trainers and assessors are experienced in supporting candidates with physical, learning, or language challenges. Reasonable accommodations are available; candidates are encouraged to discuss concerns with the trainer before the course starts.
- While not mandatory, internet access is recommended for additional research. Extra support is available for those without internet access.
