Frequently Asked Questions
Starting from December 1st, 2015, licenses are valid for three years.
The costs are as follows:
1. Security Guard (Static) License: €90
2. Door Supervisor (Licensed Premises) License: €150
3. Protected Forms of Transport (Cash-in-Transit) License: €150
4. Two or more sectors: €220
Requirements for obtaining these individual licenses include:
- Completed PSA application form.
- Garda Vetting form, completed and included with your application.
- A color copy of one form of ID: either your passport, driver’s license, or birth certificate.
- Your PPS Number.
- One passport-sized photo with a plain white or light grey background.
- A color copy of your Garda/GNIB Card (required for non-EU nationals).
- Police clearance certificate from your country of birth if you are not a resident of Ireland. If you have lived in another country for six months or longer, you will also need a police clearance certificate from that country.
- FETAC certificate or a course completion letter (TRF Form) from your FETAC-accredited training provider.
1. Supervising and managing individuals employed in security services
2. Enhancing and upholding standards in the provision of these services
3. Issuing, renewing, suspending, and revoking licenses
4. Maintaining a register of licensees
5. Establishing a system for investigating and adjudicating complaints
PSA is a acronym for “The Private Security Authority”.
There are two types of security licenses issued:
1. Contractor License – Required for all contractors operating a security company.
2. Individual License – Required for individuals working in the Door Supervisor (Licensed Premises) or Security Guard (Static) sectors.
Both contractors and individuals need a security license, and additional sectors will also require licensing in the future.
Anyone who wants to run a security business or work in the security industry must hold a valid PSA license.
